— Vancouver, BC - Takasa Lifestyle Company Inc, the makers of Canada’s first Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and Fairtrade Cotton certified homewares, is pleased to announce the launch of their website, https://www.takasa.co, providing choice for ethical and sustainable bed and bath linens for Canadian, American and UK consumers.

As its business model, Takasa is committed to engaging in ethical manufacturing practices and using Fairtrade certified cotton. The company works to improve the lives of everyone involved in the supply chain with Fairtrade certification that ensures their farmer partners receive a fair and stable price for their cotton.

“Our mission is to create an end to-end organic, natural and clean lifestyle company,” says Ruby Rakhra, co-founder at Takasa Lifestyle Company Inc. “Takasa will strive to source the best-in-class materials, to partner with companies that emphasize fair practices and clean production, and to deliver excellence in value to customers. We are confident our brand-new website will help us to reach a breadth of consumers who are interested in Fairtrade cotton certified homewares.”

Making a Social Impact

Takasa believes the practice of Fairtrade encourages sustainable cotton production through establishing economic, social and environmental standards that protect farmers, reinvest in farming communities, as well as support local education for their families. The company’s homewares are also certified organic by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), recognized as the world’s leading processing standard for textiles made from organic fibers.

“This standard defines high-level environmental criteria, along the entire organic textiles supply chain, and requires compliance with social criteria as well,” states Lori Wyman, GOTS Representative for North America.

“Takasa has undergone the rigorous certification process for both GOTS and Fairtrade because we want our customers to be sure that they are making a mindful, socially conscious choice when choosing our products,” states Rakhra.

Positive Measurable Environmental Impact

Working with greenstory.ca, Takasa has calculated the environmental impact of their entire supply chain, resulting in savings of thousands of litres of water, several hundred kilos of CO2, and thousands of hectares of farmland spared from harmful pesticides.

“Our team’s calculations highlighted the environmental footprint savings Takasa made by using an organic cotton supply chain instead of a conventional one. For example, you can see that their typical cotton bed sheet set alone saves over 3,000 litres of water (equivalent to over 1,600 days of drinking water)!” said Akhil Sivanandan, co-founder at Green Story.

Additionally, Takasa has also partnered with One Tree Planted and committed to planting a tree for each order received. As of April 30th, 2020, Takasa has planted over 100 trees through One Tree Planted.

Takasa’s Products are a Hit with HGTV Designer Karin Bennett

Takasa’s socially and environmentally responsible homewares are available direct to the consumer and are receiving rave reviews from Karin Bennett, HGTV Designer and principal designer at Karin Bennett Designs. Karin’s signature style marries clean lines and natural materials. The interior designer has been thrilled to try out Takasa’s products and commented, “I tried the brand’s bed linens and I have to say I am in love. Not only are these linens so soft but they are also safe for my family.
