BC Benefit Company
As a BC Benefit Company, we are legally and publicly committing to being accountable for our core mission of being a socially and environmentally responsible company
The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is recognised as the world’s leading processing standard for textiles made from organic fibres. It defines high-level environmental criteria along the entire organic textiles supply chain and requires compliance with social criteria as well.
Takasa has undergone the rigorous GOTS certification process because we want our customers to be sure that they are making a mindful, socially conscious choice when choosing our products.
With so many consumer choices out there, it’s difficult for the eco-conscious to make sure that fair wages are paid to workers throughout the manufacturing process. That’s why we’re committed to engaging in ethical practices at each step of our supply chain. All of Takasa's cotton is Fairtrade Cotton certified. (Takasa’s certification credentials are filed under FLO ID 40793).
With an estimated 300 million people working in the cotton sector worldwide, many farmers and workers live below the poverty line. In fact, the poorest among them are over 40 million small-scale farmers who are responsible for producing over 60% of the world’s cotton. Competition with large-scale cotton producers leaves most small cotton farmers faced with unfair pricing for their goods. Add in the pressures of changing climates, food price inflation, food insecurity, cotton prices and high-interest loans, and most farmers are left with no power over their livelihood and sometimes no hope to continue farming. Fairtrade Canada was created to give fair pricing and premiums to these farmers in order to provide more stable incomes and give the promise of sustainability year after year. Fairtrade encourages sustainable cotton production through establishing economic, social and environmental standards that protect farmers, reinvest in farming communities and support local education.
Our mission applies not just to our products, but to everything we do. That includes our packaging. We are a part of the #responsiblepackagingmovement and are committed to using the most eco-conscious packaging methods available.
All of our packaging materials are either from 100% post-consumer recycled materials, FSC and/or SFI certified. Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) forest management certification confirms that the forest is being managed in a way that preserves biological diversity and benefits the lives of local people and workers, while ensuring it sustains economic viability. Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI) is a solutions-oriented sustainability organization that collaborates on forest-based conservation and community initiatives. These demonstrate and enhance our shared quality of life while providing supply chain assurances through standards, data and authentic stories.
