Why should Duvet Inserts be eco-friendly and sustainable? The simple answer points to the fact that you are going to be wrapped up in your bedding far more than in your everyday clothes. As the average person spends approximately one third of their life sleeping, being wrapped up in conventional cotton bed sheets, day after day, year after year, can silently impact one’s health. For this reason alone, the consideration of organic cotton bedding options is worthy. Although a natural material, conventional cotton is not grown naturally. Huge amounts of water, toxic dyes and chemicals used in conventional farming are harmful to people and planet alike. Here at Takasa, we allow you to make a conscious choice, without compromising on quality or comfort.
Our eco-Friendly Duvet Inserts are made with 100 percent organic cotton that is Fairtrade certified, being mindful of the above mentioned. While in-roads are being made on the sustainable front for many products, the options available for Duvet Inserts and Pillows are few. Prior to making these a Takasa product offering, we did our due-diligence to ensure that the final product was going to be representative of our goals - that is, doing our best to keep people and planet first and foremost.
Can down be sustainably and ethically sourced? The answer is yes. The Downmark certification ensures that humane down harvesting is guaranteed, as well as the sustainable and ethical treatment of the birds. Down comes as a by-product from the poultry industry. In other words, the birds are not raised for their down, but rather for their meat.
Being a natural, renewable and reusable material, down is known for its warm, insulating ability to mold itself to the body as a way of providing continuous comfort. Down’s durability and resilience can last a lifetime, when cared for with love.
- Breathable - Breathes and wicks away body moisture, maintaining a dry and warm experience;
- Hyporallergenic - A meticulous cleaning process, including special treatments, will ensure that the down is hypoallergenic;
- Sustainable - A naturally occurring material, with the lowest carbon footprint of all insulating materials, and that which is compostable, including all by-products being biodegradable.
Wool is another natural material in that it offers breathability and moisture-wicking properties that help regulate your body temperature while you are sleeping.
Our GOTS-certified organic wool is sourced from New Zealand, boasting the highest standards of humane treatment (of sheep), processing, care and handling methodologies. GOTS defines high-level environmental criteria along the entire organic textiles supply chain and requires compliance with social criteria as well.
The many natural properties of wool have been proven to be beneficial for both health and wellness. IWTO is the global authority for standards in the wool textile industry. Since 1930, IWTO has represented the global wool trade. The unique design of wool fibre is backed by scientific research that points to amazing wool functionality:
- It can help get you to sleep faster and for longer;
- It can filter out harmful VOCs;
- It is naturally flame-resistant.
The temperature-regulating abilities of wool coupled with the moisture-wicking properties it offers, combine perfectly to create the ideal sleep environment.
Covered in 100% organic cotton sateen that is soft and silky, and filled with 100% GOTS-certified organic wool from New Zealand, our organic Duvet Insert is crafted by hand by artisans in the pacific north-west using traditional techniques.
We are proud of the fact that there is a positive snowball effect that happens when you buy organic and Fairtrade - from the farmers, to the makers and all the way to your home.
